During the 2023 Presidential Election campaigns, LGBTQ+ individuals, who had been targeted by the government, became more concerned after Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was re-elected as President. Erdoğan also targeted LGBTQ+ people during the election celebrations, describing this situation as a perversion. LGBTQ+ people started to react to this situation with the arrival of Pride Month. They organized parties and marched in the streets. Dozens of people were detained during Pride marches with violent police intervention.
